BASICS OF STRETCHED FLOORS
A new innovative material has been introduced into the market in recent years, the stretched ceilings. They are the latest solution to suspended ceilings and adapt to all types of ceilings.
Its construction consists of a thin plastic film which is stretched into a frame. The final shape is defined by the metal frame. The application is specific to each space to be applied to the shape, angles or curves formed. Special designs of three-dimensional designs with transparent or opaque, matte or glossy, printed or colored films directly affect the atmosphere of the space. For example, a backlit film is enough to illuminate the whole room without extra light.
Stretched ceilings are the only decorative intervention in the spaces where they are installed. The new material inspires professionals and property owners to create original and appealing ideas and applications. But it also has the capability to cover air conditioning and ventilation, electricity and alarm systems, as well as hydraulic pipes and installations. Installation of additional components, such as lighting fixtures, air conditioning and ventilation inlets and outlets etc. is normally done but with their own suspension from the roof of the space.
ADVANTAGES OF STRETCHED CEILINGS
The surface of the stretched ceiling is very lightweight, environmentally friendly, soundproof, non-allergenic, non-flammable, waterproof, durable, dust-free, and easy to clean. As a result, the material can be easily mounted or transported, in a clean and fast manner, without leaving any damage behind. The material needs minimal maintenance while the colors, shape and vibrancy of the printed images remain intact over time.
The stretched roof provides energy-saving benefits by forming a thin layer of insulation from the building blocks, reducing heating and cooling needs. Modern anti-static material technology helps improve air quality as compared to gypsum board, it does not accumulate dust and bacteria in its composition. This property makes it ideal for health care and medical facilities. STRETCHED CEILING – INSTALLATION
Installing the rubber roof does not require extensive installation effort. The walls or ceiling that the membrane will cover need not be fully integrated. The installer is specialized and needs help in any event that the membrane will need to be removed to work from behind and repositioned. After installation no cleaning is needed as no sticky substances, cement or paint are used. The process of installing the rubber roof is modern and simple. With the use of heating, the material is expanded to achieve the final smooth and stretched effect by resting on the perimeter frames.
STRETCHED CEILING – APPLICATIONS
An original eye-catching construction arises in the center of the pharmacy in Kiato. Initially a detailed design was made to define the exact organic shape which could include product display windows. For the construction a metal frame was used which was set up piece by piece from the ground floor to the top of the floor, following the design. The lighting fixtures were then installed according to the lighting design to ensure uniformity without dark spots. The last step was the placement of the elastic film. With patience and prudence, the specialized workshop warmed up the material piece by piece, achieving expansion and stretching to fit it into the frame. The end result is an autobiographical sculpture that cannot go unnoticed!

A different application was made at the cafe in Ilioupoli. Wanting to give a warm and carefree atmosphere a recess was created on the ceiling of the drywall for mounting the film. The metal frame was initially manufactured where the black glossy rubber film was stretched and mounted. Then point-by-point was punctured to show the fiber optic heads at the bottom. The end result is reminiscent of a starry sky with different colors.
